Let’s talk about our wellbeing!
38% of Brits – 17.5 million UK adults – would use CBD oil to manage their mental health
Simon Manthorpe, CEO of EOS Scientific, discusses the ways in which CBD helps alleviate the ailments of mental health
With a nod to International Stress Awareness Day, EOS Scientific – the UK’s leading CBD oil testing service, have unveiled research that highlighted Britons’ attitudes towards taking more holistic approaches to tackling ailments of mental health. As Britons look towards more holistic remedies rather than prescribed medications, the popularity of CBD has boomed within the health and wellbeing markets. By the end of 2021, the valuation of the CBD market is expected to triple in size to £1.2bn. Recently, the Pew Research Center found that one in seven Americans use CBD daily; and it would seem that Britons are following in their footsteps.
As alluded to, one exploratory avenue for resolving symptoms of mental health, such as stress, could be the emerging CBD oil market. The British consumers have been displaying their new found desire for CBD infused products in recent polling. EOS Scientific has commissioned nationally representative research across a sample of more than 2000 UK adults exploring the growing shift in health-conscious Britons seeking alternative and holistic remedies to manage their health.
- 30% of Brits, representing almost 15 million of the population, are wary of approaching a doctor about their mental health as they don’t want to be prescribed medication that may be too severe for their symptoms or have negative side-effects
- 47% of those aged 18-34
- 24% of Brits, or roughly 11.3 million people, prefer to manage their mental health with holistic remedies
- 35% of those aged 18-34
- 38% of Brits, representing almost 17.5 million UK adults, would use CBD oil to manage their mental health
- 50% of those aged 18-34
Simon Manthorpe, CEO of EOS Scientific, has commented on the science of CBD and the growing rates of popularity the compound has enjoyed in the UK:
“CBD is one of over 100 cannabinoids found in the cannabis plant. So far CBD is known to help with not only epilepsy but also anxiety, inflammation, pain relief and sleeping issues. CBD is regarded as a food supplement that helps to bring balance to our bodies and minds by complementing or ‘topping up’ the endocannabinoid system which most are unable to create enough of, therefore causing imbalance. The human body naturally creates cannabinoids, which are used by the endocannabinoid system to maintain balance/homeostasis within the body. The endocannabinoid system has been long regarded as the most important system in the body for maintaining long term health.
CBD’s recent explosion in popularity as a wellness supplement is tied to the myriad health benefits that CBD products offer and the large proportion of the public who prefer holistic remedies over the more traditional, pharmaceutical treatments – many of which, have proven to be unsuccessful in dealing with the ailments of mental health. We hope that International Stress Awareness Day opens up more conversations about the stresses that people have to deal with on a daily basis, but to also open up conversations about how to medicate and deal with said ailments.”
